The ashes of Major General V.A. Glazkov. I tell who he is
I have lived most of my adult life in the hero city of Volgograd on the street named 35th Guards Division (former Rudnichnaya street). And to my great shame, despite my age, until recently I did not know what kind of division it was and why my street was named after it.
The renaming of Rudnichnaya Street into a street named after the 35th Guards Division already took place in my memory and, most likely, was accompanied by some festive events, which for some reason went unnoticed for me.
Currently, I have been living in another area of Volgograd for a long time, and once, while walking through the Komsomolsky Park in the city center, I came across a tombstone made of red granite.
I knew about its existence before, but somehow there was no time to come closer … The inscription was engraved on the gravestone:
GUARD GENERAL-MAJOR COMMANDER OF THE 35 GUARDIAN RUNNING DIVISION GLAZKOV VASILY ANDREEVICH
General Glazkov , I heard about him! I knew for sure that he fought in Stalingrad!

How so? My street was named after the division he commanded, and I dont know anything about his death, but I dont know about the military feat of his soldiers.

Meanwhile 35th Guards Division under the command of Major General VA Glazkova was sent in August 1942 to defend Stalingrad.
First, in the area of the Kotluban station on the outskirts of Stalingrad, and then in the area the village of Verkhnyaya Yelshanka, in the city itself, the soldiers of the 35th Guards Division fought fierce battles, defending the city from the Nazi invaders.
Twice wounded General Glazkov continued to direct the actions of his fighters until a decision was made to transport him to the left bank of the Volga to the hospital.
But the car, in which the already seriously wounded general was put, was fired upon. As a result, Major General Glazkov died on the spot.
At the cost of incredible efforts, the body of the general was nevertheless transported to the other side of the Volga, where he was buried.
In 1957, the ashes of General Glazkov V.A. … were reburied in the Komsomol Garden of Stalingrad (#Volgograd since 1961) in the grave that I stumbled upon.

It is noteworthy that the author of the granite tombstone and bas-relief was Evgenia Vuchetich — the author of the monument of the ensemble < b> «Heroes of the Battle of Stalingrad» on the Mamaev Kurgan.
